King & Pawn v/s King endgame

Basic Rules:

  • If the king is behind the pawn or adjacent to the pawn, then position is always a draw.
  • The rook pawn is generally a draw.
  • The pawn on the 5th rank & the King in front of the pawn is always winning.

Stages of King and pawn endgame

  • Pawn moves to e4, Black replies with pawn to e5.
  • White king moves to e2, Black king to e7.
  • White king advances to e3, Black king follows to e6.
  • White pawn advances to d4, Black captures with pawn on e5.
  • White king captures pawn on d4, Black king goes to d6.
  • White pushes f-pawn to f4, Black does the same.
  • White pushes g-pawn to g4, Black pushes g5.
  • White captures with f-pawn to f5, Black plays a5.
  • White pushes h-pawn to h4, Black captures g4 pawn with h-pawn.
  • White pushes g5, Black captures f-pawn.
  • White plays e5+, Black king to e7.
  • White king to d5, Black king to f7.
  • White pushes e6+, Black captures with d-pawn.
  • White captures pawn with king, Black king to e7.
  • White king to e5, Black pushes a4.
  • White king to f5, Black plays b6.
  • White captures g5 pawn, Black pushes h3.
  • White king to f5, Black pushes h2.
  • White king to e5, Black promotes pawn to queen.
  • White king to f5, Black queen to f3+.
  • White king to e5, Black queen to g4.
  • White king to d5, Black queen to g2+.
  • White king to e5, Black queen captures a2 pawn.
  • White king to f5, Black queen captures e6.
  • White king to g5, Black queen to f6+.
  • White king to h5, Black queen to g7.
  • White king to h4, Black king to f6.
  • White king to h3, Black king to f5.
  • White king to h2, Black king to f4.
